Here's a wild fact: Monday's solar eclipse will be the last total solar eclipse in the US until 2044, which is 20 years away. 20 years! Where will you be in 20 years? Hopefully not still fighting with Google for ownership over your data...but you never know.
I'm heading to Texas to catch totality of the eclipse, which I've never experienced before, but I've heard it's truly mind blowing. Apparently during totality the temperature drops by about 10 degrees, birds and insects go silent, and nocturnal animals start to wake up.
Mother nature is wild.
Anyway, let's get into this week's newsletter...
Product Update
π¨New integration alert!π¨
We just launched a new HIPAA mode integration with Basis, a digital ad platform that automates and optimizes online advertising efforts and offers tools for multi-channel campaign management.
And just like our other ad platform integrations, we built this as a custom server-side integration, meaning you can govern the flow of PHI to it.

On March 18, 2024, HHS updated its guidance on how health systems should utilize third-party trackers on their website. In this episode, hosts Chris Boyer and Reed Smith review the revised guidance, and Ray Mina from Freshpaint joins to share his perspective and insights on how health systems should adopt a 1st party data strategy.
MoreVisibility's Matt Crowley and Freshpaint's Ray Mina explain more about the latest HHS guidance updates and how using a Customer Data Platform, like Freshpaint, can help healthcare marketers protect their data and stay HIPAA compliant.

Freshpaint's Compliant Corner
HHS's guidance created a *lot* of questions about the legal intricacies of web tracking. Things like:
Is an IP address considered PHI?
What about Ad Click ID? Is that PHI?
Is an ad platform considered a business associate if they do not receive PHI?
Where is that large automobile? (Okay, this one doesn't come up in this context, but every now and then, I gotta sneak Talking Heads into this newsletter.)
Those questions, and roughly 18 others, are asked daily by healthcare marketers and their legal teams. So to help answer them, we talked to an actual healthcare lawyer, Faegre Drinker's Dori Cain, to get her interpretation of the answers to those questions.
