"Insist on doing everything through ‘channels.’ Never permit short-cuts."
"Make speeches. Talk as frequently as possible and at great length."

California just hit Healthline Media with a $1.55 million fine for sharing health-related browsing data with advertisers. This fine is a seismic shift in how regulators treat condition-specific content, even when it's outside HIPAA's scope.
The takeaway?
Tracking someone reading a diabetes article + linking it to their identity = now potentially illegal under California law.
This isn’t just a wake-up call for publishers. It's a warning shot for anyone using tracking pixels, cookies, or retargeting on health content -- whether you’re HIPAA-covered or not.
