Hey there,

Hello? Yes, I'd like to report a crime. Everyone's favorite NFL team on Lake Erie (sorry, Cleveland and Detroit), the Buffalo Bills, stole my best joke. 

 

Ever since ChatGPT made AI a household name, I've been making the joke that AI actually stands for Allen Iverson. He's behind all of it. So when someone says, "Just have AI do it," what they really mean is: Allen Iverson will take it from here. Yes, it's a terrible joke. But it was my terrible joke.

 

Until yesterday.

 

The Bills released their schedule announcement video with that same exact joke. I don't know how they stole it from me, but it's clearly the heist of the century.

 

If anyone happens to know Josh Allen, or has a friend in the Bills organization, I'd love an intro. I've got a very professional, mildly passive-aggressive email to send.

We’re all embracing AI. (Not Allen Iverson, the other kind.)

 

But it's worth thinking through how you use AI, especially if you're uploading anything sensitive. It’s easy to drop a spreadsheet into a tool like ChatGPT because you need help organizing it. But if that file includes any PHI and you don’t have a BAA in place, you're opening the door to a HIPAA violation.

 

That’s exactly what this new report from Netskope (covered in the HIPAA Journal) gets into.

 

They looked at how healthcare workers are using AI tools and cloud accounts, and found a lot of risky behavior. Things like:

  • Uploading patient data to consumer-grade AI tools
  • Syncing sensitive files to personal cloud storage
  • Using unvetted apps to speed up documentation

Most of it comes from good intentions and bad workflows, but the risks are real. The takeaway: healthcare orgs need clear guidance and guardrails if they’re going to use AI safely.
